Olympic Mountains - Gray Wolf River Area
Labor Day Weekend 2000

I devised a 27 mile one-way hike from Deer Park to Dosewallips. Kristin, Ben, Carla, Brian and Scott Porterfield, and myself were along for the 3 day trip. It was a lot harder than anyone expected. I wasn't sure if Scott was going to make it. I thought maybe we would have to carry him. However he was a real trooper and finished the hike even though he had never REALLY been backpacking in his life. It was fun to have him and Brian along. The weather wasn't ideal, but it kept a lot of people home so we had the forest to ourselves! The first two days, the only people we saw was a trail crew! I don't think many people hiked to Gray Wolf Pass that year because the crew cleared over 80 trees off the trail. Kristin and I made our famous backpacker's pizza for everybody the first night. The Olympics are awesome!!!
